Very sadly, the fish was disqualified.
Derby rule number 6 is explicit:
"6. Entrants fishing from vessels must ensure that all occupants onboard regardless of age have a valid Derby ticket. Participants agree to allow official representatives of the Derby to inspect their vessels to ascertain that all occupants are entered."
On July 29th a Brown Trout weighing 18.4 lbs. was entered. On July 31st the entrant voluntarily contacted Derby Chair Todd Devries stating that he was unaware of the rule when he caught the fish and that he had a person aboard who was not entered. The committee was polled and decided that there was no alternative but to apply the rule and disqualify the fish. This is a very unfortunate turn of events and the entrant must be commended for coming forth.

There is more to this story. It would be nice and fair if he committee told the rest of the story. I could tell it but I think it should come from those who made the decision.
The whole truth and nothing but the truth is deserving for someone who told the truth.

I think the tournament committee should at least give the gentleman who came forward a free entry into next year's tournament. Reward those for being honest.

Maybe someone on the committee would like to tell it, but they might want to do it before someone else does.

Folks,
I am not on the Derby Committee. They made the correct call. Period. A few years ago a couple went out fishing in the Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular. They both had tickets. It was their 14 day old child that was in the boat with them that did not have a ticket. They caught a Salmon big enough to win a boat that day, but where disqualified because they did not follow the rules. Ya. It is painful, and I know the Derby Committee agonized over the decision - but - Rules are rules. Imagine the can of worms they could have opened for future Derby Committees if they "bent" a single rule? Again, as painful as it may seem today, it was the correct call. I commend the honest man that came forward to tell of his mistake. He can put his head to his pillow every night knowing he is a good person..........

I'm not suggesting they didn't make the right call as I'm sure they did. I just want to hear the story, not a rules quote. I am well aware of the rules.

The story goes something like this:
A fish was caught in a boat, and entered into the Derby. The boat had one or more participants that did not have a Derby ticket on board when the fish was caught.
That is a direct violation of the Derby Rules.
The fish was disqualified.
That is the end of the story. If you want it to be clearer than that, call the honest fellow who came forward and let him tell you the story directly.
I don't care who was in the boat with him. Nobody does. I know it was a living, breathing human being(s).
